BRUM SCHOOLS

BRUM SCHOOLS

Summer in Southside Outreach, UK 2019

Over 8 weeks, we carried out sculpture workshops in schools around Birmingham. These were under the theme of 50 years since the moon landing. We had a very small budget to provide teaching and making support, with sustainable materials, culminating in pieces displayed at Summer in Southside. It was wonderful to see how proud the young makers and their families were, on seeing their work displayed in a large public event later in the summer.

RUNR SENSORY PLAYSPACES

RUNR SENSORY PLAYSPACES

Thame, UK 2021

Part of our funded outdoor learning events, involved a series of sensory making activities, exploring shelter, nature and colour, and of course ended in a paint fight. Revenge at last for the young folks on us all!

Still in the aftermath of Covid, we naturally worked with smaller groups across two sites. Sensory painting, play and making and learning about the value of grounding, balancing and sensory feedback through age appropriate language.

ECO WORKSHOP

Beekeeping, the good and bad effects of rain and sun, and homemade paint were the topics of our eco workshop. We benefit from a wealth of amazing skills from our wider network of educators and creative artists, and so are able to make any aspect of the curriculum into a making activity, or sensory exploration. We like to engage with cross curricular learning and always do things at a memorable scale.

This was a day long workshop for outdoor learning, movement, team working, deaf awareness, and creative play. The groups were still subject to some lockdown restrictions, so we worked on a series of art pieces in group, exploring rhyme, texture, colour and nature. We might have got a bit messy, not like us at all!

RUNR CIRCUS SKILLS

RUNR CIRCUS SKILLS

Thame, UK, 2021

We were lucky enough to work with Bibi and Bichu, our incredible circus friends for a day of circus skills and movement coaching. Once more, with Covid group ‘bubbles’ in mind, we put together tasks and challenges, and they gave us show display and fantastic mentoring for our groups.

RUNR CREATION HEADSPACE

RUNR CREATION HEADSPACE

Oxford and Bucks, UK 2021

Still in the aftermath of Covid, we naturally worked with smaller groups in this morning and afternoon event across two sites. Sensory painting, discreet exploration of feelings through play and making. Also learning about the value of grounding, balancing and sensory feedback through age appropriate language.

BSL & Human Communication Day

RUNR BSL & Human Communication Day

Oxford, UK, 2021

This event began as a small series of focussed play therapy sessions, small and larger scale painting and individual break outs for special interests. As the afternoon progressed, we explored more aerial photography and movement games with our young people.

Working with our specialist TA’s and creative facilitators, we spent time learning sign language, along with some basic Makaton language programme signs, and BSL songs and rhymes. Discussing the importance of how these skills can help us all understand each other’s views and feelings in future. Differences both visible and invisible were discussed, and thoughts were translated into a body paint sequence piece, produced as a group. As usual, we got messy!
